About Us

Rémi Caya (pronounced Ray-Mee) is a Red Seal licensed Carpenter who started doing carpentry with a family friend in the Ottawa valley in 2003. After building a few new homes from the ground up he moved to Toronto and worked on a variety of high end renovation projects. He joined the film union I.A.T.S.E. and worked on a few shows building sets. He also travelled to Newfoundland for work for one winter to lend a hand on the Fogo Island Inn, a world class hotel, often ranked #1 in Canada. Upon his return to Toronto, he completed his apprenticeship program at George Brown College and became a journeyman carpenter in 2013. Craving a change of scenery, he moved to the west coast of Canada in 2014 and joined a company in Vancouver specializing in building custom passive homes. Over the span of the next four years, Rémi’s role grew with the company where he took on site supervisor and project manager responsibilities. He eventually moved on and worked on other high end renovation and high end new builds around the greater Vancouver area as well as up in Whistler. Covid-19 was the start of another chapter for Rémi, as it was for many people, and he found himself on Vancouver island. This is when RC Custom Carpenty was born. Rémi has been running his own business based out of Victoria BC since the start of 2021. Since then, he has focused on kitchen and millwork installation on a high end condo project downtown and also does a variety of custom projects around the VGA helping clients fulfill their desires in their homes.

In his spare time he enjoys creating his own unique woodworking projects, such as live edge furniture, plant stands or even restoring old canoes. He also has a deep appreciation for being in nature, camping, skiing and kiteboarding when the time and weather permits it. His life long passion for music and drumming keeps him dry and calm in the rainy season. And he continues to hone his carpentry skills, always learning what he can from others around him.
